Vavasour Pinot Noir, Awatere Valley
The Pinot Noir grapes come from 'The Favourite Block' so named to reflect the warmer microclimate of the site, an area preferred by the livestock in winter prior to the land being planted to vines in the 1980s. To extract optimum colour, flavour and tannin, traditional Burgundian hand-plunging techniques are employed during fermentation. Maturation for 11 months in French oak barriques (35% new) provides additional aromatics, flavours and structure to the wine. A luscious and aromatic wine, which features black cherry, plum and anise spice, the finish is elegant, long and velvety.

ABOUT THE WINE
This super red wine from Vavasour originates from the Awatere Valley area of Marlborough. This wine is exclusive to Matthew Clark meaning you won't find it at multiple retailers. Available in 75cl bottles, supplied by Foley Family Vineyards. Vavasour Pinot Noir is a delicious wine, made from Pinot Grigio/Pinot Gris grapes. This screwcap wine is made with added suplhites but is good for vegetarian drinkers. Elegant, savoury, berry-fruit flavours that are excellent with game, wild mushrooms and rich chicken and beef dishes.
A temperamental thin skinned grape and difficult to grow, when produced of any quality it demands high prices. The thin skin means it's very light in colour body and tannin, it characteristically has searing acidity and full lingering flavours of raspberry, strawberry, cherry, violets and sweet spice.
